Pakistani cinema lost its luster and has been in a dark place for a very long time. However, last year's showing of around 25 films confirmed that the film industry is back and that too with a bang! Gone are the days of old, grainy films that lacked a proper narrative, script and a concept.
Evolution of the Industry:
In the past few years, a new age of filmmaking has taken over in Pakistan which has resulted in the evolution and modernization of the industry. The graphics, storyline, and effects have greatly improved over time. Some great directors have managed to bring forward their original, unique and out-of-the-box ideas to the screen that were not only appreciated locally but internationally as well.
Rejuvenating the Cinema with Young Blood:
With the development of our film industry, a pool of young and amateur filmmakers is emerging from all across Pakistan. National College of Arts, Beaconhouse National University, SZABIST, The Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture now offer a degree in filmmaking or production which has resulted in new and fresh talent joining the industry.
A New Cinema-Going Culture:
There used to be a time the entire country had only 15 cinemas but with the revival of the film industry, this number has increased to 83. Not only going to the movie theater has become acceptable in the Pakistani society, but preferable as well. A new cinema-going wave has taken over and we are SO ready for it.
